PRESS RELEASE May 2, 2008 BST and Larry Shaw send in one of Arkansas “Big Dogs” to race the Kansas Triple Header BST Larry Shaw Race Car Series is proud to announce, along with IMCA, the return of Wayne Brooks to IMCA racing after a 11 year hiatus. Wayne Brooks is the driver of the famed UFO Brooks/Shaw Modified race car, which has raced in major events across the country. We are very excited about his BST IMCA debut in Round # 4 as the “BEST OF TEN” continues at the Kansas Triple Header for the BST Larry Shaw Racing Series. The Triple Header starts at Rolling Plains Motor Speedway in Hays, Kansas, hosting the Friday, May 9th BST show, which pays $1,000 to win, $100 to start and doubles as a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying event. BST Larry Shaw series then travels to Sherman County Speedway in Goodland on Saturday, May 10th and to Thomas County Speedway in Colby for a Mother’s Day race on Sunday, May 11th. Both of those events pay $700 to win and $100 to Start. Wayne Brooks will be driving the BST Larry Shaw house car, which will have the honor to carry the famous UFO number. Wayne Brooks is from Bald Knob, Arkansas. He has been racing for 30 plus years and has over 600 plus wins! His most notable win was in Bristol Motor Speedway when they laid down dirt, making it the fastest dirt track around. Wayne Brooks has been driving his first Brooks/Shaw Modified for the past 12 years. Driving the same car, with over half a million dollars in winnings, this is something all dirt drivers from coast to coast are envious of. Wayne Brooks and Kevin Shaw started up the Brooks/Shaw Driving School about 5 1/2 years ago to help drivers perform at a level of professionalism we all strive for. Hays pit gates open at 3 p.m. at. Murray Goes from Last to First at Dawson County Raceway By Darin Racek David Murray, Jr. was offered a chance at an extra $400 to the $700 winner’s purse by BST promoter Joe Bellm if he would start at the rear of the field of the scheduled 26-car BST Modified A Feature. Murray took the offer, actually starting 24th after two cars were unable to run due to mechanical woes. The race was slow going, with four cautions in the first five laps. The scariest incident night occurred after the car of Charley Brown of Maxwell was hit by another car coming out of corner four, breaking the steering in his car, and sending it towards the wall. Before it got there, North Platte driver Jay Steffens got in it’s way. Jay’s car went into the wall and rolled on the front stretch, landing on its roof. Fortunately, neither driver was hurt. By lap five, Murray had moved his way to third place, behind Will Brack of Mead, Co. and Robby Haines of Benkelman. Brack spun out, handing the lead over to Haines. Murray got by on the restart and set his sights on the end of the race. However, five more cautions slowed the race down, dropping the race to fourteen laps. A wreck on lap twelve nearly wiped out everyone running from second place on fifth place, as Haines, Chad Dolan of Gibbon, Matt Brack of Mead, Co., and Vince Leibert of Lexington were all involved. Vince was able to stay on the track, and restart in second place with two laps to go. Beatrice driver Jordan Grabouski started alongside in third place, and was able to get by him to take second place. By then, Murray had already cross the finish line and was counting his money. Steve Aitken of Cozad stayed out of trouble and finished the race in fourth place. Wade Cross of Phillips rounded out the top five. Murray, Aitken, and Leibert were also the three heat race winners. 4-22-08 PRESS RELEASE Round #3 for the Larry Shaw Blood, Sweat & Tears IMCA Modified Touring Series. BST rolls into Jetmore, Kansas on Saturday. April 26th for the first time ever allowing some Central Kansas and Oklahoma drivers to get some of the valuable BST Championship points that is based on drivers 10 Best Shows. This is only round #3, which leaves the Championship open and up for grabs for anyone at this point. Jetmore’s high banks and high speeds are something all the BST Drivers are talking about. All drivers will be running for $700 to win and $100 to start. BST registered drivers will receive 2 shots at the $31,000 4-24th contingency program. This program has been giving the drivers who place 4th through 24th products and/ or cash every time they race. The BST two seated modified will be on hand for some lucky fans and BST registered drivers to give rides in as well. BST will then load up Sunday, April 27th and head straight North to Lexington, Nebraska to finish out the swing allowing some Central Nebraska drivers to get some of the same valuable BST points. Eddie Belec Jr. leads the way in a Larry Shaw Chassis. 4-15-08 Decatur County Speedway Oberlin Kansas April 13th 2008 Round # 1 for Decatur County Speedway, and Round # 2 for the BST IMCA Modified Series…Combined… Threw the Knock Out Punch !!!! David Murray Jr., Ryan Gaylord, Travis Sherfick, & Todd Pankonin win DCS Features The Decatur County Speedway Season Opener had all the elements of a great season opener! With over 4 different states and 80 plus cars, DCS had great racing, with very few cautions making for a fast and smooth show. Good car counts and lots of fans in the stands, along with great support from the local media and track sponsors including the Schwans Food Company. Todd Pankonin from Binkelman NE took the win in the Hobby’s after some great racing with Kelly Kanopp and Austin Davis. The top 3 drivers traded the lead and or challenged the leader lap after lap. Jason Rogers and Lloyd Meeske looked like the cars to beat in the Stock feature and like the Hobby’s the Stock put on a great show up front with the very patient Travis Sherfick using the lower groove of the 3 groove track to make the pass late in the feature and go on to the win. Ryan Gaylord, BST’s driver development driver, in his very first Sport Mod race, driving his Larry Shaw Sport Mod, held of a hard charge by Dusty Palmore, Milo Lippleman and Shane Klochman to win the first ever Sport Mod feature of many more to come at Decatur County Speedway. Full details coming soon. 3-18-08 Dodge City Kansas This morning the phone lines were buzzing as Joe Bellm director of the BLOOD, SWEAT, and TEARS (BST) IMCA Modified Series and Ed Beckley of DCRP came to an agreement to run two days of IMCA Sanctioned Mofified Races on Friday and Saturday June 13th & 14th. The BST Series is highly regarded as the Midwest's biggest Series for IMCA Sanctioned Modifieds. The IMCA officials and Beckley talked at length planning on this race for the last few weeks. "IMCA's Bret Root and BST's Joe Bellm are joined together to make big things happen for the IMCA Mofifieds, so why would we not want to be part of a class we strongly believe in?," said Beckley. Friday night will be a full racing program with a $1000 to win BST Race and then on Saturday night we come back with a $2,000 to win race for the Mofifieds. With IMCA Sanctioning and this huge race all IMCA rules and BST rules and proceedures are in effect.
